The IFAI Code Committee is the industry voice in identifying and effecting changes in the International Building Codes (IBC) and the national fire codes/specifications applicable to the specialty fabrics industry. The Tent Rental Division is an active part of the committee to help identify existing codes applicable to the industry and forwarding information to members.
The IFAI Procedural Handbook for the Safe Installation and Maintenance of Tentage - a living document of invaluable sources of information on how to do safe and quality tent installations. The document includes information on site survey, layout and staking, poles, tensioning, sidewalls, and safety and maintenance for pole-supported tents, bail ring tents, pipe frame-supported tents, box-beam frame-supported tents and soon to be added tension tents.
Chapter 2.2 includes the staking study data summary compiled by the University of Illinois and the TRD Education Committee.
Pullout Capacity of Tent Stakes Volume 1: Tent Data Summary - Voilume 1 summarizes the results of tent stake pullout tests conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Illinois. An extensive anchor testing program was performed to quantify the effect of variables on pullout capacity and to assist in the development of methods to predict the magnitude and reliability of anchor capacity. Anchor length, anchor diameter, fastening height, load angle, anchor depth, and holding strengths in various soil types were studied. Chapter topics are testing parameters, results of testing, interpretation of results, summary, references, DCP and stake modeling, alternate methods for predicing stake pullout capacity with DCP results and ASTM specifications for DCP tests. CD-Rom format. Item #26002 Cost: $200 - to order visit www.ifai.com/bookstore
Pullout Capacity of Tent Stakes Volume 2: Tent Data - Volume 2 explains test methods used in the Tent Staking Study and includes a database of test results, showing anchorage cpactiy in various conditions. Data includes load measurements, displacement, and rotation of the stake top. Anchorage capactiy was investigated in various soil types, moisture amounts, with different stake diametersa and embedment depths, with varying times between installaiton and pullout testing, and with various load fastening heights. Several configurations of group stakes were also tested. Pullout tests were conducted at nine sites. Three primary sites were identified with pullout tests conducted in soil in its natural state, in its wetted state, and in its saturated state. The primary sites included two fine-grained sites and one coarse-0grained site. Pullout tests were also conducted at six secondary sites with three of the sites fine-grained soil and three sites coarse-grained soil. All data collected is recorded in this publication. CD-Rom format. Item #26003 Cost $1,000 - to order visit www.ifai.com/bookstore
